(1.5 hours away) The landscape of Anjou is as gentle and pleasant as its climate. The region’s rolling planes are intersected by a network of rivers which help to irrigate the already fertile land. North of the city of Angers, the confluence of the Sarthe, Mayenne and Loire rivers form a great flood plain in the winter months and is a regular port of call for thousands of migrating birds.

Some of the Loire Valley’s finest fruits and vegetables are grown here. Trees and flowers also flourish, the rose gardens of Doue are legendary. The region’s vines produce not just white, red and rose wines but also the sparkling wines of Saumur and St-Cyr-en-Bourg.
