June 2013 – The Journey Begins
Paint covered clothes became the attire of choice as we spent our days with a paint brush in hand!
Trips to the ‘Dépôt-ventes’ to buy second hand furniture which we have refurbished, has enabled us to give each room a unique style and feel.
Lionel Potier from Waterair visited us and was very helpful in assisting us with choosing and ordering our swimming pool.
Our friends, Stuart, Gary & Terry arrive from the UK. They slaved away for 10 days, reconfiguring a small kitchen, a games room and a bedroom into the shell of three ensuite bedrooms – now the upstairs Oak Room and the two ground floor rooms, The Garden Room and The Terrace Room.
Benoit, our plumber, from ALEXEN arrived to install the pipework for the ensuite shower rooms.
Roger Coulonnier and his team (local Paysagiste in Pouance) arranged a huge digger to take over the garden to commence ground works for the swimming pool.
October 2013 onwards
Every day a new challenge, from soundproofing walls and ceilings, erecting plasterboard walls and ceilings, sanding down floors, varnishing, wallpapering, tiling, laying flooring – oh, and yet more painting!
Despite our busy renovation project, we still had time to make new friends and spend time with them.
Our beautiful curtains are ready, made by Mme Carole Bonnier at Etoiffes et Doigts de Fée in Chateaubriant. She has done an amazing job.
After an exceptionally wet winter, the liner for the swimming pool is ready for fitting, followed by the decking.
A trip back to the UK with a large van, resulted in us eagerly unloading lots of exciting goodies – wooden bedframes, rugs, pictures and soft furnishings – we couldn’t wait to put the decorative touches to our rooms.
As the garden flourished and bloomed, and before the hungry birds are ready to flee the nest, our new home is finally taking shape.
So exciting – our new hot tub arrives – powerful jets, lighting, music, speakers and somewhere for the wine glass!
Our work done, our doors open, ready to greet our first guests, we just had to reward ourselves with a soak in the hot tub (while Pip took a well deserved nap)!
